Names will soon be engraved on the Wayne County War Memorial, which will be erected on the lawn of the Justice Center later this year, and members of the Disabled American Veterans are again asking for your help to ensure that these names are correct.
Don Lair, Commander of the D.A.V. Chapter 105, has provided a list of the names as they will appear on the memorial. The names are published at the bottom of the article, and Lair asks that anyone who finds an incorrect name or finds that a name is missing should contact him at (606) 348-4012 or Frank Dishman at (606) 348-7720.
Names on the memorial will include the names of Wayne Countians who died in service to their country during World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. The memorial will be made of black granite. It will be 19 feet long and weigh about 10,000 pounds.
The centerpiece of the memorial is an American flag. Under the flag is the statement, “Some Gave All.” It also includes the names of all branches of the service.
The memorial will be paid for through donations, including a contribution from Wayne County Fiscal Court. Donations are still being accepted for the project. They may be mailed to the Wayne County D.A.V., P.O. Box 944, Monticello, Ky.
