NMFA Accepting Applications to Host a Summer Camp for Military Kids
ALEXANDRIA, VA September 22, 2008 — With the successful completion of the 2008 Operation Purple® Camp program, the National Military Family Association (NMFA) is now accepting applications from camps interested in participating in the 2009 camp season.
This is the perfect opportunity for camps to have a positive impact on the lives of military children. Camps that are selected to host an Operation Purple camp are given a curriculum that specifically addresses some of the needs military kids have and NMFA covers the cost for each child that attends. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the documents that provide vital information about the application process and expectations for Operation Purple hosts. The deadline for receipt of proposals is November 7, 2008.
The goal of Operation Purple camp is to impart the message to these young heroes that “Kids Serve Too.” The program helps military kids experience carefree fun in a healing outdoor environment while establishing relationships with other children who have the shared experience of having a parent deployed. Learning coping skills, making friends with other military children, developing an appreciation of nature, and experiencing life lessons at an early age are what make Operation Purple camps so unique.
Each camp is joint or “purple”—encompassing all Service branches, as well as the National Guard and Reserve, and the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service and National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration—and is offered free of charge to all participants.
For questions about applying to host an Operation Purple camp, please contact J. Regner at j.regner@nmfa.org. To obtain a copy of the proposal and budget guidelines, the camp application, and to learn more about the program, please visit http://www.operationpurple.org/.
