Attention Military Families!
Following the success of the recent launch of our Talk, Listen, Connect; Deployments, Homecomings, Changes initiative, Sesame is embarking on an exciting new project, a Primetime TV Special for families. This half hour special for PBS will highlight the courage and resilience of a few military families who have been changed due to a combat related injury. Unlike other TV specials that focus solely on the service members injured in Iraq or Afghanistan, this special will specifically address the special challenges faced by the entire family, including young children. This Special will offer a valuable service to all families – military and civilian.
We are seeking your help identifying possible families for inclusion in this special. The following is the criteria for families:
· Soldiers (including AD, Retired, Guard and Reserves) who have apparent physical injuries (such as amputees or paraplegics), TBI and/or PTSD
· Rank of E2-E6
· Have been injured in combat during tour in Iraq or Afghanistan.
· Have children ages 3 to 6 years old, and possibly older siblings.
· Soldier and family are comfortable talking on camera about how they manage and cope in the “new normal” and willing to share examples as how they have been/are using tools to cope (i.e. counseling services)
· Willing to film some family activities together. (We would prefer to shoot in a setting that allows an illustration of the family doing some activity together – could be at home, play, etc).
· Willing to shoot one to two full days for their personal stories (TBD between October-December)
· Willing to film a second time (TBD January or February) to come together with other families on camera to connect & talk about their experiences (Note: could involve travel & possibly an overnight – Sesame to cover all expenses)
Should you have families that might meet this criteria, please contact me by OCTOBER 3rd. After hearing from you, our Producer will be in direct contact with the families.
Thank you in advance for your help
Best,
Lynn
