WASHINGTON – A trusted legal resource for veterans’ advocates has received a graphic makeover, said goodbye to cumbersome paper delivery, and is now available for the first time online. The Veterans Advocate, published by the National Veterans Legal Services Program, can now be ordered and read online, making it easier to get up-to-date information.
Staying informed on current rulings can make all the difference for advocates trying to help veterans with VA claims. “The Veterans Advocate continues to be an invaluable tool providing timely advice, in-depth analysis of current case law and strategy that has helped me win cases on behalf of my Veterans. Thank you, NVLSP,” said Neal Williams, a National Service Officer with Military Order of the Purple Heart.
The help can’t come soon enough. The VA takes an average of 177 days to decide a benefits claim. But if the claim is initially denied and the veteran appeals, it can take the VA years to resolve the appeal. In February 2008, the Government Accounting Office reported that about 392,000 claims were pending before the VA.
The latest issue of The Veteran’s Advocate discusses the top 10 court cases for advocates, how to make a claim almost denial proof, and how to determine whether a new law or regulation applies to a pending claim. It also includes updates on Agent Orange issues such as the Blue Water veterans case. The “Frequently Asked Advocacy Questions” section answers questions submitted by advocates.
Subscriptions are available through the NVLSP bookstore for $80 annually.
