Suffolk County Legis. Steve Stern (D-Huntington) chairman of the Veterans and Seniors Committee, joined with dozens of volunteers to help the Jacob’s Light Foundation with its year-end packing of holiday cheer for our troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Stern also awarded a $1,000 legislative grant to the foundation to help defray the cost of shipping the care packages overseas.

The Jacob’s Light Foundation was established by Dorine Kenney (in photo with Stern and check) in memory of her son, Jacob Samuel Fletcher, who was killed in Iraq in 2003. The organization ships needed supplies, special treats, a newsletter and correspondence to our brave servicemen and women.

“I am honored to award this grant to the Jacob’s Light Foundation and to assist in packing supplies for our troops,” Stern said. “As chairman of the Veterans and Seniors Committee, but more importantly as an American, I am pleased to provide assistance and support to their families. We must always recognize their service and dedication to our country and do all we can to ease the burdens placed on them and their families as they serve our nation.”
