Houston Proclaims “Homes For Our Troops Day”
HOUSTON,(GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) –“The City of Houston will again show its support of America’s veterans by presenting Homes for Our Troops with a Proclamation declaring Homes for Our Troops Day – 2009. New Directions Chosen as Finalist for HGTV Kitchen Remodel
Great news! New Directions, a nonprofit agency serving homeless and at-risk Veterans, has been chosen as one of eight finalists to have the Women’s Veteran’s Program at Mitchell House in Los Angeles’ kitchen remodeled on HGTV. Voting has begun on HGTV’s web site.
If you’d like to vote for New Directions, each day you can vote once at http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/home/text/0,,HGTV_32656_82769,00.html. Just click on Los Angeles. Voting will continue until March 2nd and two winners will be announced on HGTV on March 15th.

Bionic Gloves Helping USA Cares Give a ‘Hand Up’
Bionic Gloves, sister company to Louisville Slugger, is partnering with USA Cares in support of its mission to help military families. Fitting the USA Cares “A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out” motto, Bionic, which sells sports and fitness gloves designed by an orthopedic surgeon, will work hand in hand with the organization to promote the charity’s outreach efforts.

What do we mean by Invisible Wounds?
There are over 35,000 soldiers who have been wounded in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Although injuries that veterans endure today are comparable to that of their military predecessors, the massive use of explosive devises can cause devastating wounds. The physical wounds from IED’s or suicide bombers include TBI, traumatic amputation, shrapnel wounds, burns and other very complex injuries.
National Military Family Association and Armed Services YMCA Selected for DoD Military Family Readiness Council
