Based on the Army and Marine Corps’ success with Tutor.com, the Department of Defense (DoD) is making the online tutoring service available beginning in January 2010 as a benefit to all active duty military service members, reservists, National Guard personnel on active duty in a deployed status, DoD civilians in a deployed status, and their dependents.
In addition, the program is expanding beyond helping children of military personnel. It now includes support for adult learners who are going back to school (including military spouses) who may want some live one-to-one help with resume writing, studying for the citizenship exam, prepping for the GED exam, or taking community college level courses.
Tutor.com is an online homework help and learning service that connects students to a certified tutor for one-to-one help. The network is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With more than 1,800 expert tutors, Tutor.com has conducted over 5 million sessions in math, science, social studies and English. Tutor.com was awarded the Parent’s Choice Gold Award in 2008 and 2009, and is also an American Association of School Administrators partner.
