FARMER VETERAN COALITION TO HOST FIRST EVER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FOOD AND FARMING VETERAN CAREER FAIR

support-groupVet Centers are a community-based program within the Department of Veterans Affairs that provide readjustment counseling to veterans who have served in combat zones or who have been victims of military sexual trauma or harassment. Services are also provided to the family members of these veterans. Vet Centers provide a wide range of services to include individual, group, marriage, family, and bereavement counseling. Vet Centers also have connections within their communities to refer veterans to other services if appropriate and can provide assistance with problematic discharges. READ MORE »

NEW 6-PAGE VA DISABILITY COMPESATION FORM UNCOVERED

paperwork1June 9, 2010 (Army Times) – After years of complaints from veterans about having to fill out a 26-page-long benefits claims form for the Veterans Affairs Department, the Office of Management and Budget has approved VA’s new six-page form.

As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have progressed, the 26-page application became particularly troublesome for veterans dealing with Traumatic Brain Injuries or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, both of which can cause short-term memory loss and other cognitive issues. READ MORE »

VA SECRETARY ANNOUNCES NEW HOTLINE FOR HOMELESS VETERANS

HomelessnessSecretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced today, June 3 2010, the establishment of a new telephone hotline to provide emergency support and resources to homeless veterans.  He made the announcement as he toured the facility at the VA medical center in Canandaigua.

“It is unacceptable for a single veteran to spend the night on the streets of America,” said Shinseki.  “The hotline of the new National Call Center for Homeless Veterans will provide homeless veterans with caring, timely assistance and coordinated access to VA and community services.” READ MORE »
